Your CGPA won’t make you rich or get you high-paying jobs🚫

But this one thing will.

Hey friend?

I know by now you’d have seen or calculated your CGPA for last semester. Be it good or the other way around.

If you’re on first class, Bravo! You’ve done amazingly well🔥

If you are on a second-class upper, niceeee! You are doing really well😎

If you’re on second-class lower, well done! You sef no bad🙌🏽

And if you’re third-class, well done too🫶

But here’s one thing you should know…

Whatever Your CGPA is, it won't make you rich or get you a high paying job.

Now before you come for my head or report me to the HOD of Mass com for making such a statement,

Hear me out first...

Last year, I got an internship offer with one of the biggest advertising firms in Nigeria. It was like a dream come true. In fact, I was so excited I couldn’t close my eyes to sleep the night before I resumed.

On my first day at work, they showed me my supervisor, a chocolate-skin guy in his late twenties. And good lord, he’s so fineeeeeeee!

But that’s not where I’m going...

This guy— (a senior copywriter at the agency who’s extremely good at his job)– called me to his desk.

“I know today is your first day…” he said. “...but what can you do for me?”

In my mind, I wanted to say, “Sir, have you seen my CGPA? I’m a scholar! Of course, I can write.”

But instead, I muttered...

“Huhmmmm… I can write radio and TV scripts?”

‘Brilliant” He exclaimed. “Can you write one for this XYZ brand and submit it in the next 10 minutes?”

What?

Just like that?

Anyway, I wrote the script and showed it to him.

And no, it wasn’t perfect. I made a couple of mistakes. But according to him, I had the one thing other students who had come before for internships didn’t have.

And guess what?

It wasn’t my CGPA.

It’s my skill. My previous experience. My portfolio.

That’s how I stood out. And became fairly popular at the agency.

That’s how I started using this skill to make money for myself.

And that’s how many of your coursemates and friends are making money too.

Those you see doing social media management, cinematography, photography, copywriting, content writing, community management, and digital marketing amongst others.

Clients pay them to use their skills to solve problems for them.

You can be one too!

You can decide to learn any in-demand skills online by yourself. It’ll probably be stressful at first but give it 3 to 6 months and you’ll be better at it.

Or you could be trained by industry experts who will hold your hands and speed up your learning experience. And before you know it, you start making money with it.

Speaking of money-making skills…

You could win #50,000 at the MCSA writing competition set to hold this Thursday, 23rd of May 2024.

But that’s not all…

You can add your work to your portfolio and use it to attract paying clients for yourself.

So if you’ve sent in your entry, congratulations to you.

I can’t wait to see you win and have a fun-filled learning experience on Thursday.

Till then,

Lola

PS: By the way, what high-income skill would you like to learn if money and time aren't the problem? I’ll be by my laptop waiting to read your reply.
